Lisa Urichuk
MEET THE ARTIST
Lisa Urichuk and also known as Lisa Hodder. This journey started for me in the 90s, while attending high school. Life happened and we tend to stop. One day my 11 yr old daughter found an art class in 2017 on Facebook’s Wheatland Society of Arts (WSA) page. This is in a small town of Strathmore Alberta, were I raised my family.
Over the years, there has been a journey in my art. Attending offered programs and instructing at the WSA Studio. I am always looking to paint and to improve my skills while enjoying teaching various programs including Wine and Paint nights.
In the last 4 yrs, I have been more serious about the acrylic medium. The last two years I was working with Nancy Hughes-Smith Fine Art out of Calgary, AB to focus on developing my art style. Spent a few sessions with Debra Ward in Calgary with Plein Air . In the last two years I have finished over 30 pcs.
Recently, I left Alberta in summer of 2024 for employment and ended up in Campbell River, BC. It was hard to leave my WSA Board family, but knew the future experience painting on the island would be inspirational.
March of 2025, my co-worker and I decided to go stay in Holberg for the night and then walk to San Josepf Bay with my Plein Air art supplies. Long walk with a cart. While painting the one of the islands by the beach, I met a member of the Campbell River Plein Air Painters. This summer I enjoyed spending every Saturday and Sunday I could with this group. Found they are working in mediums that I would have never thought of with Plein Air.
The most amazing thing I love about painting is getting in my car for a road trip to find my next painting. I still have lots of the island to explore and blank canvas to paint. My journey has just begun, but I feel like a candy store on Vancouver Island that cant wait to make the canvas look amazing.
